What number does DBC represent?

In the multiplication problem at the right, different letters stand for different digits, and ABC and DBC each represent a three-digit number. What number does DBC represent? (Two answers possible. Give one)

In the given problem C * C = _ C, the units digit is the same digit.
It can be possible only in 3 cases, C should be 1, 5 or 6.

(1) C = 1
If C = 1, ABC * 1 = ABC as its not ABC but DBC, C cannot be 1.

(2) C = 5
If C * C = 25
And B * 5 = B => B can only be 2 or 7.
Also A * C should be a single digit number D => A can be only be 1.

So ABC can be 125 or 175 => DBC can be 625 or 875.

DBC is 625 or 875.

  2. I have a question why. Why can't C=6?

    1. Because then B is fasle because you are adding 3 to the final product of 6 x b, which is not possibl otherwise you get a 3 or more digit number
